I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.

Rebel Girls Powerfull Pairs in one of the latest editions in the rebel Girls series and did not disappoint!
There are some truly amazing mother, daughter duos in this book , some fantastic little stories about them, and why they're someone to look up to. The artwork is beautiful, and I loved the new addition at the back of the book where children can write their own story about themselves and activities to do that are mindful and empowering! I'll never tire of this series and I love how much variety it offers to females of the world today! I wish these had been available when I was a child!

Following in the path of all Rebel Girls books so far, this latest instalment of the popular series focusses on mothers and daughters. The title indicates that they are “powerful pairs” but the meaning of “power” here is open to interpretation. The myriad relationships depicted in the mini biographies range from inspiring to supportive to creative to adventurous. There is a lot of variety and for a change, I wasn’t aware of most of the pairs mentioned in this book, something that isn’t usually the case when I read a Rebel Girls book.

The tales, as always, come from all over the world, though the maximum number is, as always, from the USA. The 25 mother-daughter tales in this book range from the expected such as Marie and Irene Curie to the baffling such as Beyoncé and Blue Ivy. (Why!??! I really mean, why Blue Ivy?!?!? Not to take anything away from the little one’s talent, but surely her parents’ position has been instrumental in her getting a Grammy.) Still, most of the bios are worth a read and if you can ignore the few celebrity ones who don’t seem to be that impactful, the rest are worth knowing about. The only exception to the celebrity bios is that of Julie Andrews and her daughter Emma Walton Hamilton, as they both jointly write children’s fiction, something I wasn’t aware of! They deserved a mention here for sure.

There are so many not-so-known pairs also mentioned in this collection. My overall favourite entry was that of Kayuula and Shina Novalinga, Inuit throat singers from Canada. I had never heard of this concept of throat singing and googling it proved to be a very enlightening. There are many other fabulous entries such as the story of Susan Holland and Brittney Wacasey (who are into barrel racing though the daughter is legally blind!) and Linda and Shara Davis (who are health aides in Alaska and kept their village safe during the covid pandemic without any doctors or hospitals.)

Of the two Indian pairs in the book, I loved the story of Leena and Bhakti Sharma. I can’t imagine someone from tropical India swimming in the frigid Antarctic waters and setting a record. That would have taken some guts!

I’ve already mentioned seven mother-daughter pairs here in my review, so I better stop and leave the rest for you to discover through the book.

Overall, this isn’t my favourite Rebel Girl book, quite anti-climactic actually because I have been looking forward to this specific title since ages. But for the exposure it provides to what would otherwise have been inspiring yet mostly unheralded women from around the world, the book deserves a read.

My thanks to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for the ARC of “Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs: 25 Tales of Mothers and Daughters”. This review is voluntary and contains my honest opinion about the book.

I am already including my future daughter and I as the mother daughter book reviewer duo in the "write your story" part towards the end of this amazing chapter book!
You can add your own!

Well, that's going to happen later. As for now, I am truly amazed at the publishing team's flawless work over the years regarding the Rebel Girls series.

This collection is just as perfect like the previous collections. What I find totally different is the first in the mother daughter duo from various fields and I would say it has variety!

The illustrations and the write-up in each chapter stands out. You will come to know about some of the most amazing people who have been excellent at what they do/did.

Thank you, Rebel Girls Inc., for the advance reading copy.

I'm such a big fan of Rebel Girls! These books are so inspirational. I wish they had been around when I was younger, but I love buying the books to the young girls in my life. Powerful Pairs presents the stories of mothers and the daughters who have achieved remarkable accomplishments. From familiar names like Beyonce and Blue Ivy Carter to women who may be lesser known but not any less inspiring, such as Lauri and Arianna Strand or Leena and Bhakti Sharma, these stories are short, easy reads sure to influence and motivate girls. I love the addition of the activities at the end of the book, as well.

I am so grateful to Rebel Girls and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review Rebel Girls: Powerful Pairs.

This is a collection of short anecdotes of pairs of women, most of them being mothers and daughters.
My most enjoyed pieces were of Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton; I look forward to reading the tales this duo spun.

The piece on Emmeline Pankhurst, Christabel Pankhurst and Sylvia Pankhurst, was the most inspiring out of the lot. The line, "we are here, not because we're lawbreakers, we are here in our efforts to become law-makers" is one of the most powerful lines I've read and will always stay in my mind.

All of these gave me a hope I did not know I needed and it would only be more powerful for young minds that need inspiration.

Powerful pairs, powerful illustrations- with questions to write your own story

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy-in exchange for an honest review.

What a wonderful and inspiring collection of stories about strong mother-daughter relationships, all between well-known and, thankfully, lesser-known pairs of mothers and daughters. Powerful illustrations of the powerful pairs are shown in the book.

Strong company, cooperation, trust, and support are all present in these stories. We get to know something about the different projects they spent time on together. Standing for their rights, health aid, humanity, as well as dancing and photography, are all themes that are represented...

Aside from the stories, I especially like the part where you are encouraged to record your own story and portrait with your mother or another adult you like. There are inspiring questions about favorite activities, objects, characters, and memories, for example.

One of the brands I wish was around when I was younger and growing up was the Rebel Girls brand as I definitely would have appreciated them more back then, than I do now. I still enjoy reading them and they are quick reads as each story is just one page long. I think if you have children aged 5-9 years old, these would make great bedtime stories as they are single pages -so not too long and then you can also have a great discussion afterward and also instil some positive and strong female role models into your daughters and nieces. Also, the other thing that I loved about Powerful Pairs was it helps celebrate that amazing and strong bond between Mothers and Daughters. For me, I lost my mother when I was 27 and at the end of this month on the 29th December, it will be 8 years since she passed away. In this collection, we also read several different profiles from past heroes and icons like Marie Curie to modern-day heroes like Beyonce. The other thing I did enjoy was it also spotlighted and told the story of lesser-knowns like athletes Lena and Bhakti Sharma who were the first mother-daughter duo to swim the English Channel in 2008. As this book doesn't come out till February, why not put a pre-order on it and get it as a post- Christmas present for your daughters and nieces. As I said this book is perfect for all ages as if you are aged 5-9 it can be used as a read-aloud between parent/child and if you are 9-15 years - you can read it by yourself and still enjoy not only the stories but the artwork and who knows, by reading this you may discover a new role model and a new potential career path to go down.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read this book, in exchange for an honest review!

The Rebel Girls franchise hits the bulls eye yet again! I didn't think I'd be so interested in what seems to be random pairs of women, but I'm so glad to be proven wrong. I love how this book shows insights into relationships that I usually wouldn't even think of, and I love how it highlights how a daughter or someone close to someone successful could be inspired to not only forge their own path, but to have that unwavering belief in their own selves, boosted by the support system by their said pair in the book..

I love how I, a twenty-five-year-old woman, was completely enamored by this book, so I can only imagine how good of an impact this could be for learning, knowledge-hungry kids. I definitely recommend this to EVERYONE; every gender, every age, every person could benefit from learning about the ways different women made use of their relationships and their inspirations to become their own person. It also showcases the importance of a good guiding hand could be in one's journey. The illustrations are also still adorable and beautiful, as always!

Thank you to the publishers for allowing me to review Rebel Girls: Powerful Pairs!

This unique insight into mother and daughter bonds and inspiring ideas and actions that have changed the world was a refreshing and accessible read for all. The illustrations once again were beautiful and colourful and truly matched what each mother and daughter duo has accomplished. Some of the duos included in the collection are the Pankhurst family who campaigned for votes for women in the UK during the 20th century as well as the Curie family who now has a national charity in Marie Curie's name. I wish I had a book like this whilst growing up and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it now to present and future young readers and educators.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC.

Another smaller addition to the Rebel Girls franchise. It continues to make me so happy that there’s so many inspiring and amazing women to tell more about.

I liked the focus of this book, as I think it is the first one that really focus on the collaborative achievements. There have been entries about multiple women in all of the other works too, but I felt a sort of comfort from this theme.

I learned about a lot of new women in this book, which is great when I’ve read so many of these books already. There’s quite a range of stories, from personal achievements, record breakings and pivotal societal and scientific changes.

There’s a new addition to this book in the form of QR codes on certain pages which gives access to more information, I’m curious about how that works and how much that is going to be used by readers of the physical book when it comes out.

This is all in all another insightful addition to the line. There’s not much to be said about the writing style that I haven’t already said before. I always enjoy looking at the artwork. These more thematic books are very interesting and I like them a lot.

Another informative entry in this series of books. Readers meet mother and daughter pairs who have changed the world by working together in their various fields. The illustrations complete with quotes help readers connect to these pairs. The text is easy to follow and brings these women to life for middle grade readers. They serve as inspiration for younger generations to challenge themselves to find their passions too.
Pages are included at the end of the book for readers to write their own story. the authors also include activities to encourage readers to explore and experiment.
A terrific addition to elementary school libraries.

The Rebel Girls series has done it again! Another amazing installment in this series. Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs highlights 25 incredible stories of mother-daughter teams and the uniqueness that is found in this relationship.
Adventure. Curiosity. Love. Beauty. Equality. Determination. These are the celebrated themes woven into these quick bedtime-story length essays. Each story is a highlight of how, because of the special bond between mother and daughter, these women have made each other and their world a better place. I love that both born-to or adopted-by mother/daughter love is highlighted within the stories too!
Some of the names are easy to recognize: Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter, Julie Andrews and Emma Walton Hamilton. Others, may not be household names… yet! But their journeys together are no less special. A few of our favorites (because yes, I absolutely had my daughter help me read and reflect on this compilation!):
- Briana and Cambyr Sullivan, who hiked the Appalachian Trail together.
- The Parkhurst women, who fought the frontlines on the English Suffragette movement.
- Laurie and Arianna Strand, pilots with purpose!
- Leena Sharma coaching her daughter, Bhakti, through a world-record swim in the Southern Ocean.
- Kim and Dechen Yeshi, who upcycle shed Khullu to weave it into Yak Wool clothing, bringing stable jobs and economy to nomadic people in Tibet.

The illlustrations are gorgeous, vividly colorful and capturing the beauty of each soul and the magical love unique to all mother-daughter pairs.

All in all, 5 stars. I only wish it were longer and highlighted more powerful pairs!

Thank you to Net Galley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review.

I just love the Rebel Girls series! Each book is full of inspirational women designed to empower young readers. I love how diverse the women they choose to highlight are. They come from different backgrounds, live in different countries, and include different races and nationalities. The diversity is so important for young readers, and the inclusion ensures that every child who gets their hands on a Rebel Girls book will see themselves reflected in someone featured.

The latest review-proof book from the Rebel Girls industry follows the form of the previous gazillion – full-page illustration, as long as it's by a female artist, accompanying a brief non-fiction page about a woman or women who have gone their small way to change the world for the better, and often in ways that men won't or cannot. Here, however, the unique twist is that these are mother-daughter families as subjects, and in starting with Beyonce Knowles and her daughter it quite immediately shoots itself in the foot. OK, said child has been on a Grammy-winning record, but there are about two hundred of them every year and she's hardly managed to impact much at all.

Luckily there are much better pairings to come. The Pankhurts smashed lots of innocent shop owners' windows en route to getting the vote, the Curies suffered from working with radium and polonium but managed to save countless lives, and so on. There is a sense here that the Rebel Girls have got their fingers in so many pies, so anyone from Venezuelans showing off their country to Indigenous Canadian throat singers can get to feature. There is also the sense here that some of these stories I should have known about – I had no idea Julie Andrews and her daughter wrote kids' books together, nor that Prue Leith was an advocate for adopting Cambodian orphans such as she did.

Books that nobody can fail to learn from generally get high marks in my estimation, and this is definitely one of them, despite the desperation at including all and sundry at times.

the rebel girls books are quick, interesting reads with one-page bios coupled with portraits of each woman (in this case, each mother-daughter pair). i loved the diversity of each pair and their profession. there were well-known celebrities as well as lesser known women. the book covered women of many different age ranges, ethnicities, and interests. the bios are also written in a very interesting and captivating style. all in all, i definitely recommend this book!

this was my second rebel girls book, and i loved it as much as, if not more than, the first!

Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs is a collection of 1-page stories of mothers and their daughters who have achieved something great. These stories demonstrate an enormous range of ways that moms working with their daughters can make a difference. From performers to authors to humanitarians, to athletes setting incredible records, to women who helped change the world. It was great to read one or two of these stories each night before bed with my young daughter and then discuss each of them in more detail.

The last few pages of the book include some great discussion questions, a page to write your own story. The prompt to find your own “unicorn space” led to a lot of discussions around what brings joy AND makes a better you.

I was also impressed that each of the stories featured portraits of the mothers and daughters, each illustrated by women from all over the world.

A few of the women don’t have birthdates listed, which made me question whether there was in-depth research done on these women. One story had birthdates for the two daughters, but they didn’t align with the dates for their accompanying story which led to some confusion around whether the daughters were part of the change or if they came after.

Overall, Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs is another great conversation starter for parents and children. The stories are engaging, the illustrations colorful and eye-catching, and the discussion content at the end of the book guarantee that this book will be referenced again and again in the coming years.

*I was provided a copy of Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs to review, however, this review is my own and was not influenced by the publisher in any way.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre:
Children's; Feminism

It was my first time reading a book from collection Rebel Girls. I wish this collection would be available to us while I was growing up because it would positively determine my childhood, my aspiration, dreams and ability to achieve any goal I gave myself.

This book is focused on mother-daughter relationship starting with the one and only, Queen Bee and Blue Ivy – just to clarify, I am a huge fan of Beyonce since her pink-ends-hair while she was a part of group called Destiny’s Child.

It continues, not only with women working in art industry like Beyonce does, but also humanitarians, scientists, travel guides, etc. The range is very wide.

One of my favourite stories, apart from the first one about Beyonce, was about Emmeline, Christabel and Sylvia Pankhurst who were suffragists at mid 19th century. The reason why I have chosen this story to be one of my favourite is, in all honesty, without women like them, we would not only be able to learn, but also to vote, own a property or to have the same rights as men.

A common theme for Rebel Girls books are illustrations with vivid colour scheme which I absolutely adored.

This book would be a perfect gift for Mother’s Day too as they could have read it with their daughters.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Rebel Girls for an electronic ARC in return for an honest review.

The Rebel Girls series offers up the life stories of women who are accomplished in many different fields. An example of an earlier title is Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Immigrant Women Who Changed the World. These are books that are designed to inspire girls and to remind them that there is no limit to what they can try and do.

This latest entry in the series looks at mother daughter pairs and this may make it a great title for adult and child to look at together. Just some of the duos featured here include Beyonce and Ivy Blue; Emmeline Pankhurst and daughters Sylvia and Christabel; Sarah and Sally Kettle; and Laurie Strand and Adriana. There are hikers, biotech people, authors, scientists and more.

There are additional suggested activities included at the end of the book. These include write your story, draw your portrait and more dun together. As an additional bonus there is also information about an app where longer stories can be heard.

The book is beautifully illustrated with art and story complementing each other. There are a number of illustrators, each of whom shares their vision.

I highly recommend this latest entry in the series. It is a fun, inspiring look at some mother-daughter pairs who represent many interests, backgrounds and ethnicities.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I love the "Rebel Girls" brand - I own a hardcopy of the first in the collection, and it is beautiful. 25 Tales of Mothers and Daughters follows the trusted formula: two-page spreads containing a one-pager about the women (mother-and-daughter, in this case) and an illustration by a female artist. The pairs featured cover a number of countries, ethnicities, abilities, and interests.

While there have been comments that some of the pairs aren't really "heroes", that is not what the "Rebel Girls" concept is about at all! In fact, up-ending the traditionalist views of what constitutes a hero is exactly what it is about.

I especially like that these write-ups, while certainly including the pairs' accomplishments, focussed on the bond between the mothers and daughters.

The introduction acknowledges that "mother-daughter relationships come in all flavors, shapes, and sizes." While this may not be fully explored in these pages, the intricacies of gender and families are not really within the purview of this book.

This is the kind of book I would buy as a hardcopy, not only for my own daughters, but also for other mothers-and-daughters. I highly recommend it.

Powerful Pairs is the newest book in the Rebel Girls series. It features 25 dynamic mother/daughter duos, from entertainers, scientists, athletes, and more. Yes, there are a few big names are within - like Beyoncé and Blue Ivy Carter, but there's also some unexpected duos as well.

Some of my faves:

Kayuula & Shina Noralinga, from Nunavik, Canada – women who showed the world, via social media, the tradition of throat singing, and who also used their voices to educate people on Indigenous rights.

Marie Curie & Irene Joliot-Curie – a mother/daughter duo who braved WWI to help wounded soldiers and who even open a hospital which was entirely run by women.

Emmeline, Christabel, and Sylvia Parkhurst – suffragists consisting of a mother and two daughters, who fought for (and succeed in) a women’s right to vote.

All in all, there are 25 stories, each one a page long which also includes a colourful illustration, and a QR code so you can hear bonus content of each mother/daughter story.

An amazing book that is small, yet powerful, and perfect for young readers and pre-teens.

Thank you so much Netgalley and Rebel Girls for this amazing title in exchange of honest opinion.

I always pick up books of this series with high expectations and so far, they've never disappointed me! If I have to choose some of my most favorite series ever, Rebel Girls series will certainly make it to top 10. I love getting to know people intimately, to read about their passions, struggles and what inspired them in the first place. But due to short concentration span, I can't read nonfiction books. Rebel Girls has solved this problem for me! As there's only two pages dedicated to each person: one with highlighted parts of their lives and the other with their stunningly illustrated portraits, I can easily read them. I get to know about so many motivating figures without having to force myself to read boring books. It's really amazing. I especially love this one because mothers and daughters share a beautiful friendship, one that has the power to withstand even the worst kind of pressures. To see mothers and daughters from all of the world team up and work towards their dreams have been a great journey. Lovely Lovely book. Highly recommended!

Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs is the latest installment in this inspiring series. Despite coming from all different fields, the women celebrated in this collection all have one thing in common - they are mother and daughter. Some of the women featured are mainstream celebrities who most have heard of (Beyonce & Blue Ivy), but there are many women from different fields I didn’t know about. Like all of the other Rebel Girls books I have read there is a great variety of background. There are celebrities, scientists, entrepreneurs, etc. Each story is accompanied by an illustration, also created by a woman, in a variety of different art styles. The artists are also from all around the world and their art is influenced by that.

It’s always a treat to read a Rebel Girls anthology and this was no different. I loved reading and learning about all of these mothers & daughters.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy.

I received this book from Netgally in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely love the series I love the idea and the simple but spot on writing, along with the art work all done by woman always warms my heart.
Unfortunately this instalment wasn’t my fave As I felt the stories where not as compelling as other ones, and adding Beyoncé (again) made me feel like the research put into this book wasn’t quite there, mostly because I’m sure there there are other stories from other people/ countries or parts of the world that we haven’t heard yet.

I think it’s a lovely idea and a great present for Mother’s Day or a birthday but nothing to be hyped about. Something I actually really like was the addition of the QR code to find more information about each pair.

By the way I read it on my mums birthday because I love her and I haven’t seen it in 3 years so perhaps I’m being a little sentimental and feeling underwhelmed by it.

Needless to say that I love the Rebel Girls series! I have featured and talked about so many of these books and I know I will continue to talk about them.

This particular one is now definitely one of my favorites with its inspiring and heartwarming portrayal of mother-daughter rebel girls! As always, I knew about some of them, but again, as always, I did not know too many of them and I am so very grateful for the chance to learn about them through this book.

Like with other books in the series, the mini-biographies are perfect, both in terms of the amount of information (that informs and inspires readers to learn more) and audience-appropriateness; the illustrations are vibrant and full of those quirky details that appeal to everyone!

Whether or not you have read (or love) the Rebel Girls series, if you have not checked out this title yet, do so now!

Disclaimer: Thanks to Netgalley for the digital review copy of the book. These are my honest opinions of the book.

I purchased Bedtime Stories for Rebel Girls for my oldest daughter a few years ago, and it remains one of her favorite books to read over & over again. I was excited to learn a new book was coming out soon from Rebel Girls, this time about powerful Mom and Daughter pairs!

I love these stories and how they are written and illustrated. At one page each, the stories are perfect to read 1-2 at a time and then discuss together. The illustrations are beautiful and I love they they feature work from women and girls around the world. At the end, there are some prompts and activities to write your very own story.

I’m excited to share this with both of my daughters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this inspiring read!

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley.

This may be up there to be my favorite from Rebel Girls so far, I loved the concept of highlighting mother and daughter pairs. As with the other installments we get women/girls from all aspects of life, some historical but mostly current and from many different cultures/locations. I really enjoyed how this volume highlighted the pairs working together, even if they didn't always agree or get along. It's full of empowerment, teamwork and accomplishments with a dash of lifting each other up when it's needed. I think this will be really inspiring to young girls who already have great bonds with their mothers as well as those that want to form a tighter bond with their parents. Again the artwork and storytelling are on point, as with all other installments in the series.

Thanks to Netgalley and Rebel Girls for the ARC of this!

I’ve read almost all the Rebel Girls collections and while I think they all have some phenomenal building blocks in common (focus on women, cool illustrations, easy to follow, perfect length stories), this might be my favorite one yet. I really liked seeing all the mother daughter pairs and hearing how they worked together. I especially liked that there were more people I hadn’t ever heard of, while some are hugely famous (Beyoncé and Julie Andrews, to start) some were just being amazing by being themselves in small towns. There was a nice variety of occupations, from actors and actresses, athletes, to scientists, nurses, and pilots saving injured pelicans. If you haven’t tried Rebel Girls yet, I absolutely suggest starting here!

Rebel Girls Powerful Pairs is a wonderful addition to the Rebel Girls series. This colorful book shows off 25 mother-daughter duos that have done amazing things across the world.

Not all the duos are traditional. Some are adoptive parents and their kids. I wasn’t sure if we would have that in this collection but I’m glad we did. The art was, as always, very unique and diverse. A different artist does each page, so you are exposed to many different art styles.

What I loved the most was that some of these women are still alive, or still currently doing work. Most of the time, when you read about women who have done extraordinary things, they're historical figures from years ago. That isn’t the case here. I even realized I followed some of these people on social media. I was so proud to see them in this book, to know other people are acknowledging the work they’ve done.
